SYRACUSE - The State University of New York (SUNY) Board of Trustees announced Tuesday that Upstate Medical University is considering acquiring Community General Hospital. And the SUNY Board says it supports the move if current analysis shows it would benefit the institution.

Women business owners in a new survey released today were increasingly optimistic about the overall economy's prospects.

The Key4Women Confidence Index launched in April 2009 and since then has shown a steady increase in optimism, with about 60 percent of women business owners surveyed now saying they believe business conditions will improve in the next six months. That compares to 48 percent who expected improvement a year earlier.

DeltaPoint Capital Management, a Rochester-based firm focused on upstate New York investments, added six new operating directors to help manage portfolio companies in its fourth private-equity fund.

The directors, all seasoned professionals who have been successful throughout their careers, will commit 20 percent to 25 percent of their time to work with DeltaPoint, says Christopher Brodhead, DeltaPoint vice president for business development. They will act as mentors to portfolio companies, serve on boards, and help DeltaPoint find potential deals.

New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli announced today he has hired a law firm to represent the New York State Common Retirement Fund in a class-action lawsuit against London-based BP, p.l.c. (NYSE: BP).

The state-pension fund will seek lead-plaintiff status in the action that stems from BP's explosion and spill at its Deepwater Horizon oil rig in the Gulf of Mexico.

M&T Bank Corp. (NYSE: MTB) announced Thursday it has launched a new line of credit cards across its network of 750 branches in seven states and the District of Columbia.
The new M&T Visa card, which has no annual fee, carries a current APR as low as 11.24 percent for customers who qualify. The bank said it also offers a basic credit card, without rewards, with a current APR as low as 9.24 percent for customers who qualify.
