Census Bureau reports 11% increase in U.S. business spending on ICT

American companies spent $296.3 billion on information and communication technology (ICT) equipment and computer software in 2008. That’s up 11 percent from 2007, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, and follows a 5.5 percent increase from 2006 to 2007.

Most employers that made changes to their retirement plans in response to the economic downturn expect to keep those changes in place throughout 2010.


Report says upstate New Yorkers 'unnecessarily' use ER

 

Upstate New Yorkers made more than 640,000 trips to emergency rooms in 2008 for earaches, sore throats, and other minor medical problems, according to a new report from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

The number of trips for such minor problems raises concerns that they strain already overcrowded emergency rooms, according to the report, which Excellus released today.


Survey finds health-care costs, profits are top CFO concerns

 

Nearly half the CFOs responding to a new survey cited the rising cost of health care as their primary business concern.

The findings also indicate nearly the same amount of financial executives see controlling costs and improving profitability as another concern.


Report says insurers paid New York consumers $32M in 2009

 

Insurance companies paid New York consumers about $32 million last year and offered to reinstate 116,000 policies that had been improperly cancelled or not renewed.
The findings are part of the 2009 annual report from the New York State Insurance Department released on Monday.
