Crouse Hospital gets funding for energy project

 

The New York State Energy Research & Development Authority (NYSERDA) today announced an award of $360,000 for Crouse Hospital in Syracuse to pay for a lighting retrofit project.

The award, funded by the federal economic stimulus package, will save Crouse more than $100,000 per year in energy costs, Dr. Paul Kronenberg, CEO of Crouse Hospital, said in a news release.


NYPA announces extensions under state power programs

 

New York Power Authority (NYPA) Trustees have approved contract extensions for all 533 allocations to companies and nonprofit groups under the Power for Jobs and Energy Cost Savings Benefit programs.

NYPA President and CEO Richard Kessel announced the extensions today at Specialized Packaging Group, Inc. of Baldwinsville. Kessel said in a news release that the programs help protect more than 300,000 jobs statewide, including more than 31,000 jobs at 150 companies in Central New York.


NYSEG powers up transmission line project

 

Following a year of construction and site work, New York State Electric & Gas Corp. (NYSEG) today announced its Ithaca Transmission Project is in service.

"This project will reinforce our Ithaca-area electricity-delivery system," Keith Lorenzetti, director of regional operations at NYSEG, said in an earlier news release announcing the construction work.


New grant program targets 'distressed' counties in New York

 

Empire State Development Corp. today announced it will serve as the lead agency for managing the Northern Border Regional Commission grant program for New York.
Federal funds totaling $1.3 million are available for eligible projects through the program.
The federal-state commission targets economic growth projects in a four-state, 36-county region of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine.

Federal, state dollars aid carbon storage research

 

A team of research institutions including Cornell University received $1.3 million to study the potential of storing gas emissions from power plants in underground rock formations.

The money comes from the U.S. Department of Energy. The initiative will also receive $250,000 in funding from the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority.
