Report says upstate New Yorkers 'unnecessarily' use ER

 

Upstate New Yorkers made more than 640,000 trips to emergency rooms in 2008 for earaches, sore throats, and other minor medical problems, according to a new report from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield.

The number of trips for such minor problems raises concerns that they strain already overcrowded emergency rooms, according to the report, which Excellus released today.


Report says insurers paid New York consumers $32M in 2009

 

Insurance companies paid New York consumers about $32 million last year and offered to reinstate 116,000 policies that had been improperly cancelled or not renewed.
The findings are part of the 2009 annual report from the New York State Insurance Department released on Monday.
