Hardinge increases order guidance, Romi pushes takeover bid

 

Orders are up at Hardinge, Inc., an Elmira-based machine-tool manufacturer that continues to fend off a hostile takeover bid from a Brazilian company.

Hardinge officials announced today they are raising previous order guidance of $60 million to $65 million for the second quarter to more than $80 million.

CORTLANDVILLE — Pyrotek, Inc. has closed on its purchase of the 140,000-square-foot Monarch Machine Tool facility in Cortlandville.

Pyrotek, Inc. has closed on its purchase of the 140,000-square-foot Monarch Machine Tool facility in Cortlandville.

The $3.3 million deal includes the purchase of the building and some associated costs for moving and renovation. Pyrotek will bring about 50 jobs to the facility and as many as 70 more over the next year to three years, according to the Cortland County Business Development Corporation-Industrial Development Agency (BDC-IDA).


Lockheed wins $142M contract

 

Lockheed Martin's Owego facility will be among the sites working on a new $142 million contract from the U.S. Army.

The firm announced today it won the contract to begin production of additional persistent threat detection systems for coalition forces. The systems aid in detection of improvised explosive devices through surveillance of broad areas and have been in use since 2004.


Cornell seeks applicants for JumpStart program

 

Applications for the next round of JumpStart awards are due June 25.

The JumpStart program, developed by the Cornell Center for Materials Research at Cornell University, aims to connect small and mid-size businesses in the state with resources at the university. In the past, companies have partnered with Cornell on projects including new product development, mathematical modeling for proof-of-concept studies, and development of existing products for new markets.
