National Grid launches recycling program for old refrigerators, freezers

National Grid is starting a new recycling program for old refrigerators and freezers.

The utility is giving customers a $30 rebate if they call to schedule a pickup of second refrigerators or freezers. National Grid and its vendor, JACO Environmental, remove the appliances at no charge and then dismantle and recycle them.


Maffei, Gillibrand bill would have EPA lead lake cleanup

SYRACUSE — U.S. Rep. Daniel Maffei (D–DeWitt) and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) on July 6 announced a bill that would put the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in charge of the cleanup of Onondaga Lake.


Brooks to leave Tech Garden

Paul Brooks, vice president for entrepreneurship programs at the Syracuse Tech Garden, will leave the facility's staff July 14.

Brooks announced his departure in an email Friday. He joined the Tech Garden as executive director in July 2006.

Maffei, Gillibrand want EPA leading Onondaga Lake cleanup

U.S. Rep. Daniel Maffei (D-DeWitt) today announced a proposal that would put the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in charge of the cleanup of Onondaga Lake.
U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) is introducing a similar bill in her chamber.

The lawmakers outlined their proposal, which would officially be known as the Onondaga Lake Restoration Act, during a press conference at Syracuse's Inner Harbor.
