Gillibrand pushes bill to increase lending by credit unions

 

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand was in Syracuse today pushing legislation to raise lending limits on credit unions.

The legislation, the Small Business Lending Enhancement Act, would raise the cap on credit union business lending from 12.25 percent of an institution's total assets to 25 percent. It would also increase the minimum loan amount subject to the cap from $50,000 to $250,000.


Rome Memorial Hospital awarded grant to upgrade wireless network

 

The Rome Community Foundation has awarded Rome Memorial Hospital a grant of $40,000 for improvements to its wireless network for Internet access.
The first phase of the wireless-infrastructure upgrade is underway, Bruce Peterson, chief information officer at Rome Memorial, said in a news release.

Binghamton University launches philanthropy incubator

 

The Binghamton University student-run Philanthropy Incubator Project is now accepting applications from local nonprofit organizations.

Organizations that wish to apply for grants of up to $10,000 must be located in the Southern Tier or Central New York region and serve low-income youths below age 18 and/or adults above age 65. The organization must have been an internship or field placement site for Binghamton University social work or public administration students in the past year.

Flying Dutchman sets sail at Syracuse Opera

SYRACUSE — Syracuse Opera Company, Inc.’s second performance of the 2009-2010 season will open with the premier of Wagner’s Flying Dutchman on Feb. 26 and 28 at the Mulroy Civic Center at OnCenter.
