Wilber taps former CEO as interim leader

 

Former Wilber Corp. President and CEO Alfred Whittet on Aug. 27 took the reins as interim president and CEO of the banking company's subsidiary, Wilber National Bank.
He temporarily replaces Douglas Gulotty, who departed in early August.

Whittet currently also serves as a director and vice chairman of the company and the bank. He served as president and CEO from 1998 until he retired in 2006. Whittet first joined Wilber in 1972.


National construction spending hits new low

 

The Syracuse area added 100 construction jobs between July 2009 and July 2010, making it one of 61 metropolitan areas nationwide that added construction jobs during that period.

The Utica-Rome area lost 400 construction jobs while the Binghamton area lost 100 construction jobs during the same 12-month stretch.


Excellus: CNY stroke care cost $36 million over three-year period

 

The average annual hospital costs for stroke care totaled more than $135 million in upstate New York from 2006 to 2008.
Annual hospital costs for stroke care in Central New York averaged $36 million during the same time period. The findings are part of a new report Excellus BlueCross BlueShield released today. Rochester-based Excellus is Central New York's largest health insurer.

NYPA announces extensions under state power programs

 

New York Power Authority (NYPA) Trustees have approved contract extensions for all 533 allocations to companies and nonprofit groups under the Power for Jobs and Energy Cost Savings Benefit programs.

NYPA President and CEO Richard Kessel announced the extensions today at Specialized Packaging Group, Inc. of Baldwinsville. Kessel said in a news release that the programs help protect more than 300,000 jobs statewide, including more than 31,000 jobs at 150 companies in Central New York.


Small businesses won more federal contract dollars in fiscal year 2009

 

Small businesses won nearly $97 billion in federal contracts during fiscal year 2009, up more than $3 billion over fiscal year 2008.

The finding is part of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) annual small-business procurement scorecard released on Friday. Fiscal year 2009 covers the period from Oct. 1, 2008 to Sept. 30, 2009.
