Sensis will eliminate 84 jobs

Sensis Corp. said today it will cut 84 jobs, most of those from its two Central New York sites.

The company first announced last week it planned to eliminate jobs in response to changes in some of its markets. Beth Larson, a spokeswoman for Sensis, confirmed the number of jobs to be cut today.


HSBC plans move to Washington Station

HSBC will relocate its offices and branch in downtown Syracuse to the nearly complete Washington Station building on the edge of Armory Square.

The bank plans to move its corporate offices Nov. 22 and its branch Dec. 6. The new six-story, 126,000-square-foot office building will also be home to its developer, The Pioneer Cos., and engineering firm O'Brien & Gere (OBG) of DeWitt.


NBT reports earnings increase

Second-quarter earnings rose at NBT Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: NBTB), the holding company of NBT Bank.
The banking company reported net income of $14.4 million, or 42 cents per share, up 24.8 percent from $11.6 million, or 34 cents per share, a year ago. NBT shares were trading up more than 2.6 percent this morning at $22.82.

Earnings jump at Chemung Financial

Second-quarter earnings rose at Chemung Financial Corp., which reported a 260 percent increase in net income in the period.

The company earned $2.5 million, or 69 cents per share, for the quarter, compared with $695,000, or 19 cents, a year ago.


New managing partner takes over at Hancock law firm

Janet Callahan is the new managing partner of the law firm Hancock & Estabrook, LLP in Syracuse.

Callahan joined the firm in 1984 and became a partner in 1989. She leads the firm's litigation and appellate practice groups and has been on the executive committee since 2003.
