Earnings dip at Oneida Financial

Second-quarter earnings were down at Oneida Financial Corp. due to a drop in value of trading securities and increased provisions for loan losses.

The banking company reported net income of $814,000, or 10 cents per share, compared to $1.1 million, or 14 cents per share, a year ago. Oneida announced its results Friday.


Survey says CFOs would consider consulting to keep working

More than one-quarter of the nation's chief financial officers (CFOs) in a new survey say they'd consider consulting work if it meant staying employed instead of retiring.

Robert Half Management Resources, a division of Menlo Park, Calif.-based Robert Half International, released the survey Thursday. Robert Half International specializes in the placement of skilled administrative professionals.


Sensis plans job cuts

Sensis Corp. plans to cut an undetermined number of jobs in the coming weeks in response to changes in some of its markets.

The company will know how many jobs it will eliminate by Aug. 1, Beth Larson, a Sensis spokeswoman, said in an e-mail. The cuts will include a mix of technical and corporate positions.


Novomer locks up $18M in federal funding

Novomer, Inc. is one of six companies that will share in $106 million in funding from the economic stimulus act to develop ways to convert captured carbon dioxide into useful products.

The company, a Cornell University spinoff, will get $18.4 million. Novomer is developing plastics created from renewable sources that can be used to produce everything from containers to coatings and laminates.


Profit at Community Bank rises 76 percent in Q2

Community Bank System, Inc. (NYSE: CBU) earned $16.2 million in the second quarter, up more than 76 percent from a year earlier.

Earnings per share in the period totaled 48 cents, up from 28 cents in the second quarter of 2009. Analysts were expecting earnings of 41 cents a share, according to Yahoo Finance.
