ALBANY, N.Y. — Clear Path for Veterans in Chittenango and the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group in Vestal are among the nonprofit organizations that will benefit from a Broadview Federal Credit Union (FCU) donation of $5,000.
The credit union was formed through the Aug. 1 merger of SEFCU and CAP COM.
Albany–based SEFCU, which operates branches in Central New York, in July 2021 announced plans to merge its operations with CAP COM, another federal credit union headquartered in New York’s Capital Region. Broadview FCU, the combined financial-service provider, serves nearly 500,000 members, per its website.

Broadview says it has a longstanding commitment to supporting veterans and veteran-related causes in the Capital Region and across New York state, per its Thursday announcement.
Broadview presented a total of $35,000 in donations to seven nonprofit, veteran-related organizations in the Capital Region, Central New York, and Western New York.
Besides Clear Path for Veterans and the Southern Tier Veterans Support Group, Broadview FCU also donated funding to groups that included WNY Heroes; the food pantry of the Albany Stratton Veterans Affairs Medical Center; and the Albany Housing Coalition (aka Albany Vet House)
“Stand to Honor” ceremony
Broadview FCU on Thursday held a “Stand to Honor” ceremony outside of a branch in Albany.
Throughout the day employees and volunteers — including Broadview President Chris McKenna and CEO Michael Castellana — stood silently in pairs for 13 minutes. The number 13 represents the number of folds of an American flag given to the family of a fallen service member, per the news release.
“It’s a very emotional thing. It’s not just standing still for 13 minutes. When you put your feet on the footprints of soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice, who are no longer here, it is something that moves you,” Castellana said. “We couldn’t be here if it wasn’t for the sacrifice of millions of people that put their own personal lives aside to protect our freedoms. Every day should be Veterans Day. Today we just go a little bit further than we always do.”
