Our History

Norman PoltensonNorm Poltenson founded The Central New York Business Journal (CNYBJ) in 1986 and skillfully expanded it into a multifaceted enterprise. Over the years, CNYBJ grew to include multiple business newspapers, a comprehensive business news and research website, digital publications, and a dynamic events and networking division.

For 28 years, Norm served as the dedicated publisher of CNYBJ, committed to delivering reliable news, information, data, and research to support the Central New York business community. In March 2014, Norm and his wife, Joan, sold CNYBJ to their daughter, Marny Nesher. After the sale, Norm transitioned to a full-time role as a regional staff writer for CNYBJ, where he spent several years traveling throughout the Southern Tier and Mohawk Valley. He met with business owners and CEOs, documenting the stories of their companies.

Born and raised in Syracuse, Norm was a graduate of Nottingham High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from St. Lawrence University and a master’s degree in history from the University of Wisconsin.
