People news: Madison County board clerk retires after 37 years

WAMPSVILLE, N.Y. — Madison County Board of Supervisors Clerk Cindy Urtz has retired after 37 years, serving since October 1985.

Urtz began working at the Madison County Department of Motor Vehicles in 1976 before becoming a typist for the board of supervisors. She trained under Celia Paone and replaced her as clerk to the board in 1985. During her tenure as board clerk, Urtz worked under five chairs and 110 supervisors

“Cindy has not only been an asset to the board of supervisors, but all of Madison County for the past 46 years,” Madison County Board Chair John M. Becker said in a press release. “It is hard to believe she will no longer be by my side at all our board meetings or lending an ear to anyone who sits in the chair across from her desk. She will be greatly missed, and the county is losing a huge wealth of knowledge and kindness. When they call her the walking encyclopedia, she really is. Cindy knows everything or at least how to find out the answers. We wish her all the best in retirement.”

Emily Burns replaces Urtz as clerk.
