OWEGO, N.Y. — The Tioga County Chamber of Commerce will honor Tioga County Rural Ministry in its Spotlight on Nonprofits for June.
The ministry’s mission is to serve the unmet needs of the poor, sick, and elderly in Tioga County with just a small staff and more than 200 volunteers. The largest service it provides is emergency food, but it also supports county residents with financial assistance for things such as housing, utilities, car repairs, COVID relief, and more.
The ministry also provides services to improve quality of life with accessibility ramps, spring cleanup for seniors, back-to-school clothing for teens, Mapleridge Ranch camperships for youth, and refurbished used bicycles for children and adults. It also offers tuition assistance to low- and moderate-income residents interested in attending BOCES classes to provide a path toward skilled jobs.
