Binghamton University names new provost

Donald Hall

VESTAL, N.Y. — Binghamton University on Wednesday announced it has appointed Donald Hall as its next executive VP for academic affairs and provost.

He will begin his new role on July 1, succeeding Donald Nieman, who is stepping down after 10 years and returning to a professor role in Binghamton University’s Harpur College of Arts and Sciences, per a university news release.

Hall joins Binghamton from the University of Rochester, where he’s been serving as dean of faculty of arts, sciences and engineering.

As chief academic officer, Hall will collaborate with other vice presidents and deans to build on the university’s “strong foundation and to help articulate a vision” for Binghamton’s academic future, the release stated.

“I am truly excited about joining the leadership team of Binghamton University,” Hall said. “Don Nieman has done incredible work over the past decade, and I look forward to partnering with President [Harvey] Stenger as Binghamton University continues its stellar upward trajectory. When visiting campus, I was deeply impressed with everyone’s commitment to students, research and the surrounding community.”
