Greater Utica Chamber names Carbone Business Person of the Year

Alex Carbone

UTICA, N.Y. — The Greater Utica Chamber of Commerce announced it has selected Alex Carbone as its 2022 Business Person of the Year.

Carbone is owner and CEO of Carbone Athletics at The Fitness Mill, Carbone Commercial Property, Carbone Getaways, and Live It LLC.

The Greater Utica Chamber gives this award annually to an individual who has shown exemplary service to the chamber and/or the community. The award showcases those who are dedicated to improving and impacting the business climate of the greater Utica area.

Carbone, a 1991 Notre Dame graduate, started his career out of high school in the family business, the Carbone Auto Group, working in every department in his 30 years there. As a lifelong athlete, Carbone developed a passion for fitness and decided to forge a new path, acquiring The Fitness Mill in New York Mills. In 2019, he purchased a site in Utica to develop a new 47,800-square-foot facility that houses The Fitness Mill and 10 additional tenants. The facility, called Live It Downtown, opened in 2021 and is part of the revitalization of the city’s western corridor.

In addition to his business ventures, Carbone has served on the boards of numerous area nonprofits including the American Heart Association, The House of the Good Shepherd, and the American Red Cross. He is committed to ensuring accessibility to fitness programs for individuals with special needs through his Fitness for All program. Carbone is a supporter of autism awareness, and The Fitness Mill is the presenting sponsor for this year’s Kelberman Center Walk for Autism.

The Greater Utica Chamber will host an event to honor Carbone this fall.
