SUNY Oswego extends appointment of chief enrollment officer

Joel Wincowski

OSWEGO, N.Y. — SUNY Oswego announced it has extended the appointment of Joel Wincowski as interim executive director of enrollment management through June 2023.

The university hired Wincowski in October 2021 to lead its enrollment efforts and manage the admissions and financial-aid operations.

As chief enrollment officer, Wincowski will continue to coordinate ongoing recruitment and retention strategies and initiatives across all facets of the university. He is also leading the college’s current search for a director of admissions.

Wincowski served numerous higher-education clients over the past 20 years as a senior enrollment-management consultant for many universities including East Tennessee State University, Christian Brothers University, the University of Alabama, Salem College, Palo Alto University, University of Saint Francis, and the University of Maine, per a SUNY Oswego news release. He also served as dean of admissions and financial aid at St. Lawrence University and Keuka College, dean of admissions and institutional advancement at Paul Smith’s College, and director of enrollment management at Utica College.

“[Wincowski] stepped in and immediately brought colleagues and offices together this fall to develop and implement a bold enrollment marketing campaign which has resulted in broadened exposure for SUNY Oswego and a measurable increase in applications received over last year. We are thrilled Joel will continue in this role and remain focused on Oswego’s commitment to inclusive excellence,” SUNY Oswego Officer-in-Charge Mary C. Toale said in a release.

Wincowski received a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in education from Springfield College.
