OCRRA announces Spillane as new executive director

Kevin Spillane

SALINA, N.Y. — The Onondaga County Resource Recovery Agency (OCRRA) board of directors has selected Kevin Spillane as the organization’s new executive director.

Spillane will assume the duties that Dereth Glance previously held. Glance has accepted a position with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation as its deputy commissioner for materials management and environmental remediation, OCRRA said.

OCRRA also promoted Michael Mokrzycki to deputy director. He had been serving as the agency’s business officer.

Glance’s final day with OCRRA is Thursday and Spillane and Mokrzycki will begin their new roles on Friday, Kristen Lawton, OCRRA public-information officer, tells CNYBJ in an email.

OCRRA, headquartered at 100 Elwood Davis Road in the town of Salina, implements the community’s solid-waste management plan on behalf of Onondaga County, including its recycling and composting programs.

Spillane has served as OCRRA’s director of transfer operations for five years. Previously, he was the director of business operations for the Seneca-Cayuga ARC, project planner with DeWitt–based environmental engineering firm Stearns and Wheler (now called S&W Services Inc.), and director of solid waste with Ontario County.

“We are pleased to have Kevin Spillane lead Team OCRRA,” John Copanas, chair of the OCRRA board of directors, said in a statement. “Kevin brings strong leadership and years of solid waste experience to the position. On a daily basis, he promotes the values, principles and practices that underscore OCRRA’s mission, which is to provide our community with a comprehensive solid waste management system that is environmentally, socially and financially responsible.”
