People news: Hartwick names Glover VP for strategic communications

Gail Glover

ONEONTA, N.Y. — Hartwick College recently announced it has appointed Gail C. Glover as VP for strategic communications, a new position the college has added to its senior leadership team.

Glover will be responsible for leading the development and implementation of Hartwick’s brand vision, positioning strategy, and public-relations campaigns. She will oversee promoting and communicating the success of FlightPath, the college’s approach to supporting student success through exposure to a future-focused curriculum, mentoring, and career preparation, according to a Hartwick news release.

Glover joins Hartwick from Dutchess Community College in Poughkeepsie, where she served as director of marketing, social media, and communications. She assumes her new role at Hartwick on Feb. 1.

Prior to her position at Dutchess Community College, Glover was VP of communications at Bucknell University. Along with overseeing its day-to-day marketing communications activities, her tenure included formulating and communicating the university’s response to COVID-19.

For almost four years, Glover served as chief communications and marketing officer for SUNY Geneseo. There, she developed the college’s integrated brand strategy, launched its first digital marketing/advertising campaigns, and led a redesign of the college’s alumni magazine.

At Union College in Schenectady, she was senior director of communications and marketing, heading an eight-person team that managed strategic communication, marketing programs, and brand-use consistency.

Previously, Glover had a 13-year tenure with Binghamton University, earning several promotions and ultimately rising to senior director of media and public relations.

Glover is also no stranger to the Oneonta area, having worked as a corporate-communications specialist for AT-A-GLANCE Group (now ACCO Brands) in Sidney, from 1992-1999. In that role, she handled media relations and led the company’s employee communications and corporate philanthropy efforts.

Glover, a native of South Africa, earned both a bachelor’s degree in applied social sciences and a master’s degree in social sciences from Binghamton University.
