MOHAWK, N.Y. — Hummel’s Office Plus announced it has acquired the Utica–area branch of Swish White River Ltd.

Financial terms of the deal remain confidential, Hummel’s said in a Friday news release.

Hummel’s, based in Mohawk, describes itself as the “largest independently owned office products dealer in Central New York.”

Swish White River, based in Marcy, describes itself as a “distributor of janitorial and foodservice solutions.”

“We are a family-owned Canadian company, presently manufacturing and distributing proven innovative cleaning products from 15 locations across Canada and the Northeastern United States,” the company’s website says.

The merger of Hummel’s Office Plus and Swish White River Utica results in “enhanced knowledge and expertise” in the janitorial and break-room products market. It also brings Hummel’s Central New York employee base to nearly 100.

Under the deal, Swish White River Utica will change its name to Hummel’s Office Plus and all operations will transition to the Hummel’s network of business locations. Hummel’s will retain all Swish White River Utica employees and continue to service commercial delivery accounts.

The merging of the two companies is a “great story” for Central New York, Justin Hummel, CEO of Hummel’s Office Plus, contends. “We are excited to enhance our janitorial & food service offering through this merger,” Hummel said. “Our free delivery with no minimum orders will provide great benefits to our new customers. As part of a $6 billion buying group, Hummel’s feels well positioned coming out of this challenging pandemic. Our goal continues to provide the very best total solution by bringing products to the market competitively and quickly.”

Founded in 1934 by Harrison J. Hummel as a typewriter repair and supply business, Hummel’s Office Plus is now a supplier of office products from copy paper to furniture.

Headquartered in an 80,000-square-foot distribution center and office complex in Mohawk in Herkimer County — Hummel’s Office Plus operates retail stores in Herkimer, Rome, Norwich, and Cortland, and has a sales office in Syracuse.
