Gillibrand recommends Syracuse native for U.S. Attorney for New York’s Northern District

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand (D–N.Y.) on Wednesday recommended Syracuse native Carla Freedman for U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York (NDNY).

With Gillibrand’s recommendation, Freedman could be the first woman confirmed to lead the Northern District.

She was raised in Syracuse and is a graduate of Syracuse University and New York Law School.

She currently serves as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Northern District, where she is the narcotics chief and lead task force attorney for the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force and opioid coordinator.

Freedman joined the NDNY US Attorney’s Office in 2007 after spending more than 15 years in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office from 1988-2004.

Freedman is a career prosecutor with more than 30 years of experience in New York state.
