Syracuse comes into the game off a pair of wins at NC State and home vs. Boston College, respectively. The victories allowed the Orange to keep the flame of their NCAA Tournament hopes flickering, but Syracuse is still in desperate need of a quadrant 1 win to really stoke the fire. A victory in Louisville would give them that.
Louisville has not played since Feb. 1 when it posted a 74-58 home win over Georgia Tech. The Cardinals have been on pause due to multiple COVID-19 positives in the program and the accompanying contact tracing and protocols. Louisville’s scheduled Feb. 3 contest at Syracuse was canceled, as were two more of its games.
The Cardinals will be without two scholarship players and one walk-on when it faces the Orange, according to assistant coach Dino Gaudio.
Wednesday’s contest is the 30th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Louisville, with the Cardinals leading the series 19-10, including a 90-66 demolition of the Orange in last season’s meeting in Louisville.
ESPN’s College Basketball Power Index (BPI) gives Louisville a 56.1 percent chance of beating Syracuse. The projected point differential is 1.6 points.
