LANSING, N.Y. — Ithaca Tompkins International Airport says American Airlines is beginning daily service to Charlotte Douglas International Airport, beginning Wednesday.
The inaugural schedule has one flight per day, which has been posted on the American Airlines website.
The daily service to Charlotte replaces American Airlines daily service to Philadelphia International Airport, which it recently stopped offering, the airport said.

“Adding Charlotte service for our community is going to be of great benefit to all those who fly. This hub will provide much more reliable service year-around and connects to many destinations in the U.S. and around the world. As passenger counts increase, we’ll be seeing larger aircraft being used on this route,” Larry Baum, chairman of the Air Services Board, said.
Prior to this announcement, American Airlines has provided only weekly service to and from Charlotte Douglas on Saturdays, which started in December 2018.
This daily two-hour flight will provide Ithaca with connection to the second largest American Airlines hub, “allowing access to hundreds of nonstop destinations around the globe.”
Charlotte Douglas has one passenger terminal “with more gates than any other single airport terminal building in the U.S.,” per the release.
Ithaca Tompkins International Airport has recently completed a $40 million renovation project and is “well equipped” to handle the expanded service, “with room for larger aircraft as the air travel market recovers,” the airport contends.
Part of the renovation included the addition of four passenger boarding bridges, it noted.
