UHS names Borschuk CFO

Rick Borschuk

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — The UHS health-care system announced it has appointed Rick Borschuk as its senior VP and CFO, a position he has held on an interim basis since 2019.

Borschuk assumed the CFO duties after Dave MacDougall departed UHS. MacDougall returned to Florida and is self-employed, per his LinkedIn page.

“We have seen that Rick’s demeanor and leadership skills are very much in line with the culture of our organization,” John Carrigg, president and CEO of UHS, said in announcing the appointment. “Over the past several months, Rick has gotten to know our senior team, and we have gotten to know Rick and gain an appreciation for his quick attention to the complex nature of our organization and all that we have going on.”

Borschuk, a certified public accountant, has “extensive experience” as a finance executive with a number of health-care institutions, UHS said.

Following a career that included roles as executive VP of finance and business development with the Greater Baltimore Medical Center and CFO at West Suburban Hospital in Oak Park, Illinois, Borschuk has spent the past 20 years as an interim leader and consultant.

In that time, Borschuk has held titles such as interim CFO for the 2,400-bed St. Vincent’s Catholic Medical Centers of New York in New York City, interim CFO for the 1,400-bed Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri, and interim CFO for the 1,000-provider CHI Franciscan Medical Group in Washington state.

The nonprofit UHS describes itself as a locally owned hospital and health-care system serving Binghamton and surrounding counties. Founded in 1981, UHS provides medical, surgical, rehabilitative and long-term care services throughout New York’s Southern Tier.
