SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Following his election victory in November, Onondaga County Executive J. Ryan McMahon II was sworn into office during a brief ceremony Monday morning in his office.
McMahon defeated Tony Malavenda in the race for the Onondaga County Executive on Nov. 5. McMahon first assumed the role of county executive a year earlier, after Joanie Mahoney stepped down to take a position with SUNY.
His office indicated the Monday event was for family only and that a “more public” swearing-in ceremony will be conducted at a later date.
Syracuse City Court Judge Rory McMahon, a cousin of the county executive, administered the oath of office.
After the swearing-in ceremony, Ryan McMahon spoke with reporters who covered the event. When asked if the tenant has signed a lease for the upcoming warehouse in the town of Clay, he replied, “We’re very close to talking about that … maybe at the State of the County [address] we’ll be able to talk about that.”
In his remarks before taking the oath, McMahon thanked the voters of Onondaga County. “It truly is an honor of a lifetime. 2019 was a great year. We can’t wait for 2020 and what that brings upon us,” he told those gathered in his office for the ceremony.
