SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (MOST) will use a $300,000 state grant to renovate the unoccupied east side of the Armory in which it operates.

The MOST want to eventually rent the space to a commercial tenant.

The funding award for the MOST is part of the 2019 Regional Economic Development Council (REDC) competition.

The MOST will use the funds to renovate space in the Armory so it can lease the space to an unidentified long-term commercial tenant(s), per a museum news release. The project will help the MOST in developing additional sources of revenue.

“On behalf of the MOST boards and staff, we’re grateful for the support from New York State and REDC,” Lauren Kochian, president of the MOST, said. “This award will enable the MOST to continue its efforts towards sustainability and long-term growth in the heart of downtown Syracuse, so that we may continue to serve thousands of children and students annually with interactive exhibits and informal STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) education.”

STEM is short for science, technology, engineering, and math.

Kochian went on to say that the MOST is “thrilled about the prospect of sharing the iconic Armory with other businesses and organizations in the city. Armory Square is a vibrant district in the heart of downtown, and the Armory building should be used to its fullest potential by maximizing the extraordinary space.”

The MOST is a “hands-on” science and technology museum for all ages. The museum hosts numerous STEM education programs and community outreach events annually.
