People news: MVHS names medical director for intensive care unit at St. Luke’s Campus

UTICA, N.Y. — The Mohawk Valley Health System (MVHS) announced it has named Dr. Ghassan Koussa medical director for the intensive care unit at its St. Luke’s Campus.

Dr. Koussa works with the MVHS Pulmonary and Critical Care Group at 35 Riverside Drive in Utica and has privileges at Faxton St. Luke’s Healthcare and St. Elizabeth Medical Center. He also serves as medical director of pulmonary rehabilitation at the Faxton Campus and medical director of the respiratory care program through Mohawk Valley Community College, MVHS said.

Prior to joining the MVHS Pulmonary and Critical Care Group, Dr. Koussa was affiliated with Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, New Hampshire, as a staff physician in pulmonary and critical care medicine and medical director of the lung-cancer screening program.

Koussa earned his medical degree from St. George’s University – School of Medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed an internal medicine residency, internal medicine chief residency, and a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care medicine at Albany Medical College. He earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the American University of Beirut in Lebanon.
