Binghamton University to host Southern Tier Technology Symposium on Oct. 17

VESTAL, N.Y. — Binghamton University on Oct. 17 will host the upcoming Southern Tier Technology Symposium 2019.

The event is set for between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the rotunda at the Innovative Technologies Complex, located at 85 Murray Hill Rd. in Vestal.

The one-day symposium will “showcase the technological accomplishments” of New York’s Southern Tier region, per a Binghamton University news release. Topics will include innovations in technology and student career development. The event will also provide students a chance to network with industrial professionals, the school said.

Binghamton University President Harvey Stenger will kick off the conference at 9 a.m. with opening remarks. Following Stenger’s welcome, the agenda has many industry and academic speakers, including industry keynote speaker Steven Medwin, Toyota Material Handling North America university ambassador at Raymond Corporation.

In addition, the academic keynote speaker is M. Stanley Whittingham, SUNY distinguished professor and co-inventor of the Li-ion battery; and Qing-Chang Zhong from Illinois Institute of Technology, who is also the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power & Energy Society distinguished lecturer, Binghamton said.

Symposium attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the Innovative Technologies Complex.

Binghamton University’s department of electrical and computer engineering is hosting the event, in partnership with the Binghamton section of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

The Binghamton University Office of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Partnerships, Corning Inc., Eaton Corp., and Raymond Corp. are sponsoring the symposium.
