Nonprofit organizations in the Utica/Rome/North Country and Southern Tier regions can apply for Excellus BlueCross BlueShield (BCBS) Community Health Award grants of up to $4,000.
The health insurer offers the grants to help pay for health and wellness programs in upstate New York.
The application period opened Sept. 23 and continues through Oct. 22, Excellus said in a news release.

Rochester–based Excellus BCBS is Central New York’s largest health insurer.
The award recipients can use their funding for programs that have “clear goals to improve the health or health care of a specific population.” Excellus BCBS will consider any program that aims to improve the health status of the community; reduce the incidence of specific diseases; and promote health education and further overall wellness.

Excellus BCBS’s Utica/Rome/North County region includes Clinton, Delaware, Essex, Franklin, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Otsego and St. Lawrence counties.
Its Central New York Southern Tier region includes Broome, Chemung, Chenango, Tioga, Schuyler and Steuben counties.
