CORNING, N.Y. — The Finger Lakes chapter of the American Red Cross announced it has appointed Tiffany Millerd of Elmira as the new chairman of its board of directors.
She succeeds Deborah Woglom, as board chair. Woglom, a professor of nursing at Elmira College, completed three consecutive terms on the board.
Millerd is the graphic arts and technical writing manager at Elmira–based Fagan Engineers and Land Surveyor. She has more than 14 years of experience overseeing graphic design and technical-writing services for public and private-sector companies. She currently is providing engineering-design support on-site and for land-development projects in the field.
In the community, Millerd has served as president of the Corning-Area Young Professionals (CAYP) and on the successful FLX Gateway Community Development Corporation (CDC) Watkins Glen Downtown Revitalization Initiative (DRI) committee.
In the past year, the Finger Lakes chapter of the American Red Cross responded to 82 local disaster incidents, providing immediate emergency assistance for 108 families, it said in a news release. The chapter also made 210 homes safer through the installation of 520 free smoke alarms as part of the Home Fire Campaign; trained 5,371 people in first aid, CPR and water safety skills; provided 454 case services to military members, veterans, and their families via Service to the Armed Forces; and, collected 13,836 blood donations from volunteer donors.
More than 300 volunteers help the Red Cross in the Finger Lakes area, serving communities in Chemung, Schuyler, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne, and Yates counties, per the release.
