NBT Bank taps Kavney as CNY regional executive

David Kavney

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — NBT Bank announced it has hired David Kavney as senior VP and Central New York regional executive.

Kavney will be based in Syracuse and “assist in building NBT’s commercial-banking relationships” in the region, the bank said in a release.

“We are excited to welcome a regional banking leader like Dave Kavney to our team. His extensive banking experience, knowledge of the market and collaborative approach make him a strong fit for our organization and our customers,” Rick Shirtz, Central New York regional president for NBT Bank, said.

Kavney has more than 30 years of experience in commercial banking in Central New York. He most recently worked at KeyBank (NYSE: KEY) as the Central New York middle market banking leader, NBT Bank said. Kavney joined Key in 2016 through the acquisition of First Niagara Bank, where he held the position of market executive and commercial banking leader. He previously held leadership positions with M&T Bank (NYSE: MTB).

Norwich–based NBT Bank (NASDAQ: NBTB) operates branches in six states — New York, Pennsylvania, Vermont, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. NBT Bank’s parent company, NBT Bancorp (NASDAQ: NBTB), had assets of $9.5 billion as of March 31.
