BINGHAMTON, N.Y. — Hinman, Howard & Kattell, LLP, a Binghamton–based law firm, announced that its partners have re-elected James W. Orband as managing partner for a new five-year term, his fifth.
Orband has been the firm’s managing partner since 1999. His new term will run through 2023. He first joined Hinman, Howard & Kattell in 1984 and became a partner in 1991.
In addition to serving as managing partner, Orband maintains an active legal practice, focusing in the areas of banking and financial services, business and securities law, construction law, and estate and trust planning and administration, according to a news release from the law firm.
A 1981 graduate of Binghamton University, Orband received his law degree from Albany Law School of Union University in 1984.
A native of the Southern Tier, Orband serves on the board of directors of Security Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York and Southern Tier High Technology Incubator, Inc. He is a member of the New York, Pennsylvania and Florida bar associations and previously served as chair of both the New York State Bar Association Business Law Section and its Banking Law Committee, per the release.
Hinman, Howard & Kattell started in 1902 and has occupied its headquarters offices in the Security Mutual Building in Binghamton since 1905. The firm has grown to employ 90 attorneys in 13 locations, with a total staff of more than 180 employees. Hinman, Howard & Kattell also has offices in Syracuse, Manhattan, White Plains, Albany, Hamilton and Oneonta, New York; Scranton and Tunkhannock, Pennsylvania; Palm Beach Gardens and Boynton Beach, Florida; Saddlebrook, New Jersey; and, Manchester, New Hampshire.
Orband is just the fourth managing partner in the 117-year history of the firm.
