Cortland County Sherriff’s Office arrests three for robberies at two businesses

CORTLANDVILLE, N.Y. — The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office announced it has arrested 19-year-old Thomas M. Shutts and two juveniles in connection with burglaries committed in January.

Shutts, an unnamed 17-year old, and an unnamed 16-year-old were charged with burglary, attempted burglary, and criminal mischief, all felonies. They were also charged with the misdemeanors of conspiracy and endangering the welfare of a child.

On Jan. 9, officers responded to a call at Doug’s Powersports Unlimited on NY Route 281 and the Coffee Mania stand on Groton Avenue in the town of Cortlandville, according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

The three suspects are accused of causing “substantial damage” in trying to gain access to Doug’s Powersports and Coffee Mania, per the release. The suspects also allegedly took an undisclosed amount of cash and merchandise from Coffee Mania.
