Kinney Drugs President Jim Spencer dies at age 52

GOUVERNEUR, N.Y. — Kinney Drugs says its president, Jim Spencer, died peacefully at his home on Sunday “following a long illness.” He was 52.

Spencer joined Kinney Drugs in 2010 as director of retail operations, per a company news release.

He “quickly” rose through the organization, and most recently served as executive VP of administrative support services for KPH Healthcare Services, Inc. and president of Kinney Drugs.

“For many years,” Spencer also served on the board of directors of the Kinney Drugs Foundation.

His career in retail started after his 1990 graduation from the Rutgers University School of Business, the company said.

“Jim was a tremendous leader who absolutely loved retail,” Bridget-ann Hart, president and CEO of KPH Healthcare Services, said in the release. “He always challenged himself and his colleagues to be better in business while still preserving our unique culture. He was a friend to all of us and will be sorely missed.”

Spencer enjoyed golf, boating, and family vacations and was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan. He is survived by Lisa Spencer, his wife of 28 years, and two daughters, Samantha and Jessica Spencer.

Family and friends may call between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Friday at the Thomas J. Pirro, Jr. Funeral Home with a funeral service immediately following. The funeral home is located 3401 Vickery Road in North Syracuse.

People can send cards and remembrances to the funeral home, Kinney Drugs said.

Contributions may be made to the Kinney Drugs Foundation, 29 East Main St., Gouverneur, N.Y. 13642.
