Syracuse is coming off a 93-85 loss at No. 5 North Carolina on Tuesday night. Like the Duke game three days earlier, the Orange led the Heels at the half but could not answer their opponent’s offensive spurts in the second stanza.
Wake Forest notched a thrilling 76-75 home win over Miami on Tuesday, the Demon Deacons’ second victory in their last three games. Wake’s leading scorer is 6’0 junior guard Brandon Childress, who averages 15 points a game. He made the game-winning shot against the Hurricanes.
What’s at stake for Syracuse?
Syracuse (No. 44 in NET) is in solid shape to make the NCAA Tournament right now. The website Bracketmatrix.com has the Orange in the dance on all 118 brackets it aggregates from across the web. Syracuse is currently listed as a 9 seed, ahead of 13 other teams at the bottom of the projected at-large bid field. However, the Orange cannot afford to lose to Wake Forest (No. 187 in NET) as that would be a bad loss on their NCAA résumé. It also would be Syracuse’s third loss in a row, with 2nd ranked Virginia up next.
Saturday’s contest is the 9th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Wake Forest, with the Orange leading the series 7-1. The teams played three times last season, with each school winning at home and Syracuse taking the last matchup in the ACC Tournament.
