People news: Rome Memorial Hospital adds new physician to hospitalist team

Dr. Ravi

ROME, N.Y. — Sharmila Ravindranathan, MD, has joined the staff at Rome Memorial Hospital (RMH) as a member of its hospitalist team.

A hospitalist is a physician who cares for patients only while they are in the hospital, RMH said in a news release. Hospitalists coordinate their care with patients’ personal physicians and specialists.

After earning her doctor of medicine degree from the American University of Antigua College of Medicine, Antigua and Barbuda, Ravindranathan (who goes by the moniker Dr. Ravi) completed her residency in internal medicine at Aventura Hospital and Medical Center in Aventura, Florida.

Dr. Ravi says she became interested in hospitalist medicine because it encompasses all specialties yet, allows room for further growth and specialization. As a hospitalist, she is also very aware of the importance of coordination of care between patients and their other care providers, as well as clear communication with patients and their family.

“My experiences in life have been so diverse. I have traveled and studied in multiple places around the world and this has instilled in me the knowledge, perspective, determination and compassion which allows me to communicate with my patients, their family members and their associated health care providers effectively and efficiently,” Dr. Ravi contended in the release.

Rome Memorial Hospital is an affiliate of St. Joseph’s Health, which provides hospitalists to care for patients in the hospital’s medical/surgical, intensive care and progressive care units.
