Timekeeping Trap: Be Careful When “Rounding” an Employee’s Work Time
The Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) regulations do not require an employer to track and pay an employee for the exact number of minutes they actually work. As currently written,
“We are excited about and grateful for the support KeyBank is giving our Build to Work program,” Walter Dixie, executive director of Jubilee Homes of Syracuse, said. “This program helps eliminate barriers to employment for job seekers with resume building, computer literacy, interview techniques, childcare plans and much more. KeyBank is a great community partner in helping ensure that this program will continue to provide skills and opportunities to people in Syracuse and Central New York.”
The JHS Build to Work program is “built on the principle that job seekers will not be considered for jobs that are in high demand without the necessary skills,” KeyBank said.
Without occupational training, education and certifications, they have “less opportunity” for career development and advancement. Build to Work provides dislocated workers and long-term unemployed participants with occupational and educational training, including hands-on learning and classroom education “which will connect academics and work experience.”
Over a period of two weeks, clients complete training with a focus on soft skills, life skills and “work-readiness” development, after which job coaching and case management services are provided for one year.
