TSA appoints Johnson as federal security director for 15 upstate New York airports

ALBANY, N.Y. — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has appointed Bart R. Johnson as federal security director for 15 upstate New York airports, replacing Brian Johansson, who retired after several years in this position.

As federal security director, Johnson is responsible for mitigating threats against aviation and other transportation sectors by providing leadership and direction to TSA security personnel, the agency said in a news release. He will be based at Albany International Airport.

Prior to his appointment, Johnson served as the assistant federal security director for screening and security, also for the upstate New York airports.

Among the airports that fall under Johnson’s leadership are Central New York’s Griffiss International Airport, Syracuse Hancock International Airport, Greater Binghamton International Airport, Elmira Corning Regional Airport, Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport, and Watertown International Airport.

Johnson is a native of New York state and has spent the majority of his career working throughout the state in various law enforcement and homeland-security roles, the release stated.

Johnson earned his bachelor’s degree from Empire State College in Saratoga Springs.
