ONONDAGA, N.Y. — JPMorgan Chase & Co. (NYSE: JPM) has awarded Onondaga Community College (OCC) a grant of $220,000 to support the school’s workforce-development efforts.
The funding specifically targets training for students seeking employment in the agribusiness and food-processing industry, OCC said in a news release.
The school is partnering with employers, nonprofit organizations, and New York to develop the program.

The grant from JPMorgan Chase is part of its $1 million effort to support advanced-manufacturing training programs in Upstate areas that include Syracuse, Albany, Buffalo and Rochester, OCC said.
It’s also part of a “much broader,” $250 million effort to address the skills gap in communities around the world, the school added.
OCC is “thrilled” that JPMorgan Chase selected the school for the grant funding, Casey Crabill, president of OCC, said in the release.
“Through our workforce-development program, we are committed to responding to the needs of both local employers and workers and aligning the needs of both as we work to advance the economic vitality and growth of the Central New York region. Having this support in place will make a significant impact upon our mission,” said Crabill.
Mark Allen, upstate New York region executive for commercial banking at JPMorgan Chase, said in the release, “We are proud to be partnering with Onondaga Community College to provide training to folks in Syracuse that will fill important jobs within the advanced-manufacturing sector.”
It’s not the only funding that OCC is using for this type of training.
The U.S. Department of Labor last October awarded OCC a $2.5 million grant as part of the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) program in support of the effort, the school noted in its news release.
Several area employers in the agribusiness and food-industry sector have committed to the project.
They include the Lysander location of Brecksville, Ohio–based Agrana Fruit US, Inc.; Clay–based American Food & Vending; LaFayette–based Byrne Dairy Inc; and DeWitt–based Giovanni Food Co. Inc., according to OCC.
