NY State of Health: More than 241,000 enrolled for health-care coverage

As of 9 a.m. Monday, more than 241,000 New Yorkers have enrolled for health-insurance coverage through NY State of Health (NYSOH), New York’s official health-plan marketplace.

That’s according to a news release NYSOH distributed on Monday.

In addition to the enrollment numbers, nearly 481,000 New Yorkers have also completed their applications for health-insurance coverage, NYSOH said.

NYSOH is “very pleased”  with both the numbers for enrollment and for those who have completed applications, Donna Frescatore, executive director of NY State of Health, said in the news release.

“Activity on the site was particularly high on Dec. 23 and Dec. 24 when more than 42,000 New Yorkers enrolled for coverage,” said Frescatore.

December 24 was the deadline for enrollment to ensure health-insurance coverage beginning Jan. 1.

The number of enrolled individuals increased by nearly 22 percent from Dec. 23 (188,546) to Dec. 30 (241,522), NYSOH said.

The open-enrollment period for individuals on the NY State of Health marketplace runs through March 31, NYSOH said.

Nationally, CNBC on Monday reported an “unofficial tally” of Affordable Care Act enrollments of more than 2 million people through the federal HealthCare.gov website and state-run health exchanges.

The enrollment increase in December followed the Obama administration’s announcement that it had fixed the software problems that caused delays and disruptions for consumers since the Oct. 1 debut of the federal government’s enrollment website.
