SYRACUSE — The New York Yankees have chosen the Syracuse radio station TK99/TK105 as the new home for their baseball broadcasts in the local market in 2014.
The radio station made the announcement Friday morning. TK99/TK105 is part of Galaxy Communications, LLC, which is headquartered at 235 Walton St. in Syracuse’s Armory Square.
Galaxy owns and operates 14 radio stations in the Syracuse and Utica–Rome markets, along with an events company.

Galaxy Communications and CBS Radio have signed a multi-year agreement to air all 162 regular season games on TK99/TK105, beginning with the upcoming 2014 season, Galax said in a news release. Financial terms weren’t disclosed.
The game broadcasts will originate from CBS Radio’s WFAN-AM 660 and WFAN-FM 101.9 in New York City and feature John Sterling as the play-by-play announcer.
For the past several years, Clear Channel Radio’s WSYR (570 AM) has aired the Yankees’ regular-season schedule in the Syracuse market.
“We are thrilled and honored to partner with the greatest brand in all of sports, the New York Yankees,” Edward (Ed) Levine, president and CEO of Galaxy Communications, said in the news release. “We intend to go far beyond just broadcasting the games on the radio in Syracuse. We’re going to enhance the experience for Yankee fans in Central New York in a myriad of innovative ways, as we have done in our partnership with Syracuse University athletics.”
Listeners to TK99/TK105 are already accustomed to hearing sports broadcasts on those FM frequencies. The stations are currently home to the Syracuse University football and men’s basketball broadcasts.
CBS Radio and the New York Yankees are “very excited” about the new partnership, Mark Chernoff, vice president of sports programming at CBS Radio, said in the Galaxy news release.
“They have shown a great ability through their work with SU Athletics to enhance what is already a strong presence in Syracuse and make it even bigger and better. We look forward to that continuing with the Yankees,” Chernoff said.
