MVCC, St. John Fisher announce partnership agreement

UTICA — Mohawk Valley Community College (MVCC) and St. John Fisher College announced a 2+2 partnership agreement that will pave the way for MVCC students to obtain a bachelor’s degree from St. John Fisher.

Randall VanWagoner, president of MVCC, and Donald Bain, president of St. John Fisher College, signed the agreement that will require students enrolled at MVCC to complete two years of prescribed coursework for an associate degree, and then continue their coursework at Fisher to earn a bachelor’s degree in just two years, according to a joint news release from the colleges.

Students who enroll in the program receive guaranteed acceptance to Fisher as long as all academic requirements are fulfilled, and the agreement is extended to all bachelor’s degree programs offered at Fisher, the news release noted.

Our students have a long tradition of successfully transferring to St. John Fisher and this 2 + 2 agreement leverages the strong partnership between our two institutions to better serve students,” VanWagoner said in the release.

This is the third 2+2 agreement St. John Fisher College has announced in the last year.

With the addition of MVCC, Fisher now has 2+2 agreements with a total of six schools, including Corning Community College, Finger Lakes Community College, Genesee Community College, Monroe Community College, and Onondaga Community College, according to the release.

“Academic alliances designed to benefit transfer students are very important to us as an institution, and we are pleased to add Mohawk Valley Community College to our list of partners,” Bain said.

MVCC was founded in 1946 and says it is the largest college between Albany and Syracuse, enrolling about 7,400 students, according to the release.

St. John Fisher College, located in Pittsford, was founded in 1948 and it offers 32 academic majors in humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, business, and nursing, as well as nine pre-professional programs.
