Toby Keith’s restaurant at Destiny USA owes $189,000 in back sales taxes

SYRACUSE — The Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill eatery at Destiny USA owes  New York state more than $189,000 in sales taxes it collected from customers in 2013 but failed to forward to the state.

New York filed a warrant against Toby Keith’s in Onondaga County on April 8 for the amount of $189,392.17.

A spokesman for the New York Department of Taxation & Finance told The Business Journal News Network that as of about 1 p.m. this afternoon, the business still had not paid the agency’s collections division.

Toby Keith’s is open for business at Destiny today, an employee answering the phone said, but she referred all reporter questions about the tax issue to the restaurant chain’s corporate office.

The Toby Keith’s Syracuse Facebook page featured a post this afternoon promoting its “Ladies Night” specials for Thursday night.

 A call to the corporate office of Toby Keith’s in Arizona was not immediately returned.

Calls to Destiny USA General Manager Rob Schoeneck for comment have not been returned.

Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill opened in the mall in early 2013, on the third floor of Destiny’s expansion area.
