Vita DeMarchi elected chair of ESF Board of Trustees

SYRACUSE — Vita DeMarchi, managing partner at Synapse Partners, LLC and Synapse Sustainability Trust, Inc., was recently elected chairwoman of the Board of Trustees at the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF).

DeMarchi was first appointed to the 15-member ESF Board of Trustees five years ago, by then-New York Gov. David Patterson.

DeMarchi has long been a champion of women and minorities entering STEM professions and has mentored young professionals wherever she has worked, Synapse says. She was born and raised in Syracuse, where she put herself through college, earning a bachelor’s degree in geology and completed master’s studies in environmental engineering and hydrogeology at Syracuse University. DeMarchi built her career as an environmental adviser for prominent international environmental and engineering firms, according to Synapse.

In 2004, along with Eckardt C. Beck, DeMarchi founded Syracuse–based Synapse Partners, which provides environmental insurance and risk-management services. Synapse performs energy-efficient property redevelopment projects for clients throughout the U.S.

Synapse Sustainability Trust is a nonprofit focused on sustainable environmental initiatives. It recently announced it is selling its network of electric-vehicle charging stations in the Central New York region to a nationwide provider of charging services. Car Charging Group, Inc. of Miami Beach, Fla. plans to acquire the network from Synapse.
