AT&T launches 4G LTE network in Binghamton

BINGHAMTON — AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) announced that it recently launched its 4G LTE network in the Binghamton area, bringing customers the latest generation of wireless-network technology.

The LTE upgrade to AT&T’s 4G network includes areas of Binghamton, along Routes 81 and 17, Johnson City, Endwell, Endicott, and the Binghamton University campus in Vestal, according to the company.

“We continue to see demand for mobile Internet skyrocket, and our 4G LTE network in Binghamton responds to what customers want from their mobile experience — more, faster, on the best devices,” Marissa Shorenstein, president of AT&T New York, said in a news release.

AT&T has also upgraded its network to 4G LTE in Albany, Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo, Saratoga, Saratoga Springs Ithaca, and Watertown.

AT&T has invested more than $1.4 billion in its New York wireless and wireline networks from 2010 through 2012, the release said, with the company focusing on expanding 4G LTE mobile Internet coverage and enhancing the overall performance of its networks.

The company’s 4G LTE network delivers speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G network, the release said. Outside of 4G LTE areas, AT&T customers can get 4G speeds through its 4G HSPA+ network, according to the company.
