WCNY to honor regional ‘Women Who Make America’

WCNY will host an awards ceremony for “Makers: Women Who Make America” honorees next Friday, March 1 at the Women’s Rights National Historical Park in Seneca Falls. The member-supported public broadcasting station will give awards to 17 women from its 19-county Central New York broadcast area.

The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. at the park’s visitor center auditorium, with WCNY’s Liz Ayers emceeing.

Nominees were evaluated on how they impact their communities and shape today’s America in arts, business, community activism, education, communication, medicine, politics, religion, science and technology, sports, and volunteerism, according to WCNY.

The awards also represent a local collaboration with the AOL and PBS national documentary, “Makers: Women Who Make America,” to be broadcast from 8 to 11 p.m. next Tuesday, Feb. 26 on WCNY.

WCNY’s local public affairs show “Insight” will feature the honorees in two special programs March 1 and March 8. The show airs at 9 p.m. each Friday on WCNY and is available online at www.wcny.org/insight.

The names of the “Makers” award winners will be posted March 1 at www.wcny.org/makers.
