Upstate to host AMA medical-student meeting

SYRACUSE  —  Upstate Medical University is scheduled to host a regional annual meeting of the American Medical Association’s medical-student section for the first time at the end of this week.

The meeting, slated for Jan. 11 and Jan. 12, will draw more than 100 students from 20 medical schools in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. The American Medical Association will use discussions from the meeting to create positions for its National Advocacy Day in Washington, D.C. on Feb. 11.

Discussion topics for the Syracuse meeting include cuts in Medicare funding and student-loan forgiveness. The meeting will also feature information on alternative careers in medicine.
