SYRACUSE — SRC, Inc. is on the receiving end of a patent for an advanced radar technique to help detect small, slow-moving targets.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the patent to the nonprofit research-and-development company for its “Interleaved Beam Coherent Radar Apparatus and Processing Method.” The technique uses modern electrically scanned antenna technology to coordinate scanning and processing — allowing for a high scan rate and the detection of small, slow-moving targets like unmanned aerial vehicles, watercraft, or personnel that could normally be blocked by ground reflections.
SRC Director of Business Development for Advanced Radar Programs Daniel Culkin developed the technique under the company’s internal research and development program. It has applications in military and commercial radar systems, according to the company.
