ESF establishes new sustainability office

SYRACUSE — The State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has a new office aimed at reporting and analysis, student involvement, and communication on the school’s sustainability projects.

The new Office of Energy and Sustainability is led by Executive Director Michael Kelleher, who also serves as a faculty member for the college’s new sustainable energy major. Kelleher joined ESF in 2007 and was previously director of renewable energy systems.

The office will facilitate efforts to make ESF more sustainable through improved communication, more student involvement, and projects such as solar panels, wind turbines, and biomass generators, according to the college. ESF wants to eliminate its carbon footprint by 2015.

“ESF has been focused on sustainability and environmental stewardship for more than 100 years,” ESF President Cornelius Murphy said in a news release. “As we move forward, we bring a renewed focus with the formation of the Office of Energy and Sustainability.”
