SYRACUSE — Syracuse’s newest grocery store is now open at 1605 Erie Blvd. East.
The new PriceRite location held its grand opening yesterday. The store is the chain’s 10th in New York and it will employ 130 people in full- and part-time positions.
PriceRite has additional Upstate stores in Schenectady, Queensbury, Rochester, Vestal, and Buffalo. The chain is a subsidiary of Wakefern Food Corp. of Elizabeth, N.J. and it has more than 40 stores in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Rhode Island.

The stores offer savings up to 50 percent off traditional grocery stores, according to PriceRite. Locations are typically 30,000 to 40,000 square feet in size and employ 50 to 150 people.
The first PriceRite opened in West Springfield, Mass. in 1995. Wakefern also owns the ShopRite chain of grocery stores, which has more than 220 locations in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Delaware, and Maryland.
